I've a dim loathing for much of conceptual or esoteric art, something that I'll reserve the details of to a rant later on. On occasion, however, a picture's thousand words all click, and every possible interpretation is one I'd wish. I happened to come up with some such concept, and after a lazy Saturday afternoon I've a (just about) finished picture to prove for it.
Take from it what you will; I'd offer some self-critique, but I feel it's both pretentious and unnecessary. Although perhaps I'm just another cliche, hashing together famous concepts to make a vague and oncollected message?
Fucking awesome!!!! That was one of if not the best movies I have ever seen. I idolize Che so this is one of the best things I have ever seen. Great idea and great application of that idea. I love this enough to add it as a +fav! Fantastic!!!

as a technically accomplised picture, i'd say this is near perfect. really really.
and as a piece of faux-naive/post-warhol/pop-fart crap, it doesn't fit very well - mostly because it's far less tasteless than one would expect. and yes, there are a lot of good arguments to be raised by this, and yes, it is worthy to conpare a fiction book character to a historical one, because they are both a part of our culture and the interplay between these two is really interesting.
well done, and keep submitting here.
i said i'd link your site - forgot to in my last journal but there will be an opportunity and i shall take it. my photos from Europe will come flooding in, because i'm quite unemployed and very proud. oh! and more of your rude stuff - this is a site where lack of inhibition is applauded, don't worry about what people will think! that lady by the river was great. jx
Thankyou for the in-depth critique. This piece wasn't intended entirely in a naieve manner, although the conflation of the two figures in the popular psyche was something I wanted to play upon.
I agree that the interplay between V and Che is rather complex, and certainly could be expounded upon - but I didn't want to detail it explicitly. Why? Ultimately, everyone seems to bring something they like back from it - I don't know whether that's the hallmark of -good- art, but I'd certainly count it as -successful- enough to be proud of.

Eloquently put! I'm glad you appreciated the piece, and I like your interpretation very much. I really ought to bring out a more polished version sometime; the one as you see it is half an hour's scribbling.

Smile Now
Similarities between the two characters (Che and V) aside, this really really really does look good...
And I'm glad to see others think so!
